Seoul, the first city in the Metaverse

e South Korean capital announc a few months ago its intention to develop the virtual platform “Metaverse Seoul” which aims to make Seoul the first major city in the Metaverse.

“Metaverse Seoul” will reinvent the city government by creating a virtual communication ecosystem for its economic, cultural, tourism, ucation and civic services. It will allow “citizens to conventionally meet with avatar officials to discuss complaints and civil consultations, which are currently handl only by visiting city offices.”

81.6% of South Korea’s population will live in cities by 2025. Seoul’s growing population is approaching 10 million, nearly a fifth of the country’s 52 million people. As a result, more South Koreans will rely on public services provid by Seoul and other cities, and the pandemic has shown that these services must be resilient to any kind of crisis.

Starting this year, the city authorities will develop “Metaverse Seoul” in three phases.
