How IP telephony work
VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol technology is responsible for transmitting sound in IP telephony. When a call is made, a special codec converts the role of seo in digital branding audio sequence into a data packet. Then it is sent to the recipient’s device, where it is converted back into an audio sequence – decoded. At the same time, the system does not put forward any special requirements for the device: it can be, for example, a regular laptop or smartphone.
The functions of registering a network participant, opening and ending a communication session are assigned to the SIP protocol. The abbreviation stands for mobile lead Initiation Protocol, which means data transfer protocol.
The SIP protocol is easily scalable – it makes it possible to increase the number of subscribers. And it does not limit the mobility of users – they can move around the network without restrictions.
What Internet telephony can do
The IP structure makes it possible to use virtual numbers, when incoming calls from different numbers are received by one subscriber’s phone. Multichanneling is actively used in offices – the ability to simultaneously receive several calls to one phone number.
There are many other IP telephony tools, the use of which is provided by VoIP technology. For example:
- Call recording . Necessary for training and evaluating staff performance, resolving conflict situations with clients. Most effective in combination with the speech analytics service .
- Interactive voice menu or virtual secretary. Simplifies customer navigation, reduces operator workload, and reduces the number of missed calls.
- Telephone conferences . Connecting several network subscribers to a simultaneous communication session.
- Ability to quickly connect and disconnect workstations – operators can be added and deactivated within a few minutes.
- Keeping the number when moving the office . Necessary for running advertising campaigns, important for organizations where incoming calls are an important link in communication with the consumer.
- Create blacklists of subscribers with a choice of settings. For example, a caller from a phone number from the list will listen to a voice message or hear a busy signal.
Significant advantages of IP communication include the ability to integrate with a CRM system and connection security. To protect data packets during transmission, providers create limited authorization lists, assign the most complex passwords to SIP accounts, and regularly change protocol variables.
What equipment is needed to connect IP telephony
The implementation of VoIP technology via the SIP protocol is possible using simple telephones with a wired or radio handset. Each of them is connected to the IP network via a VoIP gateway. If the VoIP gateway system has a built-in router, then nothing else needs to be connected. If not, then it is necessary to configure the connection with the router. This method is good in cases where it is not possible to refuse to use the usual analog devices.
Another type of equipment for IP PBX is IP telephones. They need to be connected to the network via Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. There is no need to organize a VoIP gateway. Additional equipment is also not required. The phone itself can be a single handset or a base with several handsets – they can be distributed to different operators.
